It’s amazing to think that 125 years have gone by since the very first day that V. Sattui Winery started. That’s a very long time ago. What was happening 125 years ago? Okay so I started thinking about that very question. 125 years ago dates back to 1885. Okay so what was going on in 1885 when Dario Sattui’s great-grandfather (Vittorio) started the winery in San Francisco? I did some research and here’s what I found: The first appendectomy was performed. Imagine having to figure out what’s wrong with your stomach and there were no answers and you don’t get to have your appendix removed – which means a real lot of pain and possibly death.
Also during that same year The First issue of Good Housekeeping Magazine was published. This magazine focuses on articles about woman’s interests like cooking, recipes, diet and health. This shows woman’s rights and opinions being recognized.
In addition,United States President Chester A. Arthur dedicated the Washington Monument.
Wow we’ve come a long way. A lot has happened in 125 years!! Stay close and keep an eye out for other historical happenings during and around 1885.
